Steve Adelman, a 6-foot 6-inch forward from Wayland, Massachusetts, was the leading scorer for Boston College From 1965 through 1968.
Steve was told by his coach, Bob Cousey, he had one job to do ... score! And score he did!
He had the confidence to shoot in any situation, with his jump shot being his primary weapon.
When Steve got the ball, no matter where he was on the floor, it was going up, by order of his coach. and more often than not, it was going in.
When Steve was hot he was torrid, which could be good for 30-35 points in a game. When he was luke-warm, he might only be good for 25 to 30.
When Boston College needed a sure basket, they would get the ball to Steve behind a stacked screen on either side of the lane. And, as Marty Glickman would say, "It was good like Nedicks."
Steve was also a very good rebounder on defense, and was excellent at executing the outlet pass.
Not content with just sending the ball down court, Steve was also very quick to get out in front on the fast break, and swooped in for a resounding lay-up.
Steve had a career scoring average of 17.2 points per game.
He was named 1st Team All ECAC in his junior and senior seasons.
He played on the Gold Medal winning USA basketball team in the Maccabiah Games held in Israel in 1965.
Steve Adelman is a member of the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall Of Fame.
