Ed Weiner, a 6-foot 3-inch forward/guard from Brooklyn, New York, came to the University of Tennesee as a football player, but became a star as a basketball player.
His all-around skills earned him his All America status. He was an excellent shooter, with a jump shot he brought with him from the schoolyards and playgrounds of Brooklyn.
He was a deft ball-handler, and, in the tradition of City basketball, was always alert for an open teammate or a cutter heading for the hoop.
He led the team in scoring for all his varsity seasons, and as a senior was named Converse first team All AmericaEd starred on the USA Gold Medal winning basketball team in the Maccabiah Games held in Israel in 1953.
Ed was named All SEC two consecutive seasons, 1953 through 54, and 1954 through 55.
He was named Converse All America 1954 through 1955.
Ed Weiner is a member of the University of Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
